Jacqueline Carrese named next director of K-12 science

Jacqueline M. Carrese has been named the next director of K-12 science, effective July 21.

For the past five years, Carrese has served as the science supervisor for grades K-12 in the Albany City School District, where she was responsible for administrating science curriculum throughout the district’s 19 buildings, and supervising more than 44 science teachers.

Carrese previously served as Academic Administrator for Science K-12 in the Mohonasen Central School District for two years, where she taught biology, chemistry and earth science for seven years. Carrese began her career teaching science in Bethlehem Middle School, before proceeding to Shaker High School in North Colonie to teach biology and chemistry.

As an educational leader, Carrese was instrumental in designing and implementing a uniform science program of study and schedule of instruction for 12 elementary schools and four middle schools; developing and implementing K-12 science curriculum maps; designing and developing science academic Web pages; and participating in school quality reviews.

“As an instructional and organizational leader, Jackie has a significant record of accomplishments,” said Superintendent of Schools Kevin Baughman. “She brings an enthusiasm for science and a broad knowledge of curriculum development and planning that will enhance and support the instructional initiatives underway in our schools.”

Carrese earned permanent certification as a school district administrator from The College of Saint Rose. She has a master’s degree from Schenectady’s Union College, and a bachelor’s degree from The College of Saint Rose in Albany.

Among her professional affiliations, Carrese is a member of the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) and the New York Data Group. She has presented at numerous conferences featuring science literacy, Nano science and engineering courses in high schools and curriculum mapping for K-12 teachers. Carrese has also received numerous awards for excellence in teaching.
