The three Niskayuna middle schools students who will be competing in the Capital Region Spelling Bee at Proctor's Theatre on Feb. 7, are pictured above.

Congratulations to all three Niskayuna middle school students who earned the right to compete at the Capital Region Spelling Bee at Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 5 p.m.

The winner of the regional competition will move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C. later this spring.

The students are Van Antwerp sixth-grader Northern McCullough, Iroquois sixth-grader Arielle Behar and Iroquois eighth-grader Mackenzie McClure.

The trio received top scores in school wide spelling bees, open to all middle school students, in December. Chris Pierson and Jennifer Tambasco facilitated the events, in which students
competed in a written spelling test of predetermined word lists from the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The same list was used at both schools to ensure equality.

Best of luck to Northern, Arielle and Mackenzie on Tuesday!

If you're unable to attend the regional event in-person, don't worry! A recording will air on the public access channel at a later date.
