As part of Music in Our Schools Month, the Van
Antwerp Middle School sixth grade chorus and
chamber strings were selected by the New York
State Music Association to perform at the Empire
State Plaza, South Concourse on March 24. The
students were greeted by New York State Senator
Hugh Farley (Niskayuna) and Assemblyman Jim
Tedisco (Glenville). Senator Farley also
provided the chorus group with a special tour of
the Capitol prior to the performance.
Musical groups
ranging from elementary to high school, from all
over New York State have been chosen to perform
during the month of March. The Van Antwerp sixth
grade chorus performed under the direction of
Ruth Rice. The chamber strings was directed by
Stacey McClenon.
The chorus and
the string ensemble performed separately, but
for the first time, the two groups combined to
perform "If I Could Give the World a Gift It
Would Be the Gift of Song." Mrs. Rice indicated
that the two groups had never performed together
prior to their performance.
