Residents approve $70.1 million district budget for the 2008-09 school year
Voters in the Niskayuna Central School District approved the district's proposed 2008-09 budget on Tuesday, May 20. The final tally was 1,392 yes to 1,050 no votes. Results were announced shortly after polls at the high school closed at 9 p.m.
The $70,086,240 budget for next year is expected to increase the tax levy by an estimated 3.48 percent for residents in Niskayuna.
Voters also approved a bus proposition allowing the district to purchase four new 66-passenger buses and five 30-passenger buses. That vote total was 1,581 yes to 850 no votes.
In the Board of Education race, incumbents Terry Weiner and Deb Oriola were re-elected to three-year terms. Board candidate vote tallies were as follows:
  • Deb Oriola — 1,116
  • Terry Weiner — 1,008
  • Peter Glaser — 870
  • Robert Gardner — 853
  • Ronald Anzalone — 480
