2006-07 District Focus
Inherent
throughout the district activities listed below
is the focus on preparing children for a future
very different than the present. The District
theme for the year is “Building for the Future:
Relevance and Relationships.” Buildings are only
bricks and mortar. What children learn and do
within these updated facilities is most
important. It essential that the content and
teaching methods are relevant regarding what
children need to know to thrive in a different
world. Further, making connections with students
is an important early step towards building
trust, affiliation with the schools, and
commitment towards learning.
Initiatives
Planning:
Implement
a district wide new student data management
software that will track student academic
progress, manage student schedules and
attendance, transcripts, report grades and
assignments in a secure network environment, and
ultimately be accessible from home or school by
students, parents and staff. (Multi-year
activity)
Align
and update the Grade 9-12 Technology Education
Curriculum to meet the demand for skills needed
in preparation for future 21st century
applications and ensure the renovated learning
spaces support the revised curriculum.
Program:
Develop
and implement an academic improvement
intervention plan at the high school targeting
struggling learners creating Individualized
Success Plans (ISP) for these students in order
to improve student grades and academic
achievement. (Pilot program)
Provide
training to instructional staff on Response to
Intervention (RTI) – a strategy that utilizes
classroom teachers as an initial proactive
response to children with learning difficulties.
(Multi-year activity)
Facilities/Resources/Personnel:
Work
closely with all school staff to find ways to
reduce operating costs without reducing services
to children.
Continue
to develop and plan for the school capital
construction project including plan submittals
to New York State, coordination of temporary
moves, bidding projects, and beginning
construction during summer, 2007. (Multi-year
activity)
Community &
Communication:
Provide
a series of Educational Issue Forums for the
school community throughout the school year to
help develop awareness of issues regarding
student learning and development as well as
related topics.
Create
a Community Budget Forums to encourage greater
public understanding of the school budget
process, challenges and opportunities. The
forums will help to promote closer links between
the school community and the school budget
process.
