Craig Elementary held a Culture Night in mid-December to
celebrate the many different cultural perspectives of students and
their families. Food and activities from around the world were
presented with the goal of building understanding and appreciation
for each person's cultural background and experience.
The school district's Parent/Student Portal is now open for
parents to complete the new, online "Returning Student
Registration" process that was announced last spring.

Primary teachers of grades K-2 from Niskayuna, Guilderland, East Greenbush, Scotia-Glenville, Lansingburgh and Menands came together to enhance their teaching skills through various workshops geared toward developing more hands-on teaching and learning techniques in the science classroom. In word and song, Craig's second grade students this week encouraged their classmates, friends and family members to do their part to make the next chapter in American history a great one. The students presented two special performances of the musical, "Let's Hear it for America" on Wednesday, April 7, first in an assembly and then for family and friends in the evening. VIEW PHOTOS

Seven Craig Elementary School second and third graders placed third in the Odyssey of the Mind Region 7 Tournament on March 5 at Shenendehowa High School East. The team included second graders Niyanth Kanakasabapathy, Lucy Kvam and Claire Orzel, and third graders Reeya Dhinesh, Lincoln Merrill, Siddharth Sundaram and Cora Wareh. [read more]

Two Common Core Math Parent Nights were held in January where Niskayuna
teachers and administrators shared information to help parents get a better
understanding of the math being taught in elementary classrooms. Presenters also
provided parents with strategies to help children at home and debuted a Common
Core Mathematics video featuring Niskayuna students,
teachers and principals.

This year, the district is utilizing its Parent Portal to provide parents with online access to individual student results on the assessments students currently in grades 4-9 took last spring. This new approach allows the district to provide parents with the results earlier than if they were mailed. READ MORE
The blacktop at Niskayuna's Craig School received some serious color over the summer allowing students to play in new fun and creative ways. The Craig School community had its official ribbon cutting ceremony on the colorful blacktop play area its annual Back-to-School Ice Cream Social on Thursday, September 10. [View photos]
